The Black & Red Ball in aid of The Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation

The Black & Red Ball in aid of The Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation was a great success.  The annual event has grown to be an integral awareness and fundraising event with 200 people attending to support Vasculitis. The event raised £10,000 in our auction and £3,000 from our raffle on the night.  Our patrons (pictured) had turned out to support Lauren’s charity and the vital work it delivers for Vasculitis patients.  Dr Hilary Jones (Patron) delivered a speech on Vasculitis and the difficulty GPs face in detecting this early.  He provided an insight to the great work of LCTF and the support services and guidance materials it has produced for Vasculitis patients.  Francine Lewis (Patron) performed on the night with her vast collection of impressions including Cheryl Cole, Katie Price and Sharon Osbourne.  Kirsty McCabe (patron) also gave up her time with a young family to support the event and present the ball on the night.

Amazing auction lots had been donated included signed lots from Andy Murray, Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Alex Ferguson and a pin flag from 13 golfers in the 2012 Ryder Cup.   Lots had also been available on Glasgow’s two prominent football teams – Rangers & Celtic.  An executive box was also donated by Aberdeen Football Club.  Very generous lots had been donated by our corporate supporters who joined us on the night.

Grant Currie, Trustee and Co-Founder for LCTF also opened the event with an introductory speech.  He talked about how Vasculitis had devastated their lives when their 15 year old daughter, Lauren Currie, died of Wegener’s Granulomatosis in October 2010.  He talked about the reasons for setting up LCTF and their outstanding work they have achieved in their daughter’s memory including raising over £200,000 in just over two years for Vasculitis.  Grant also explained that the 2013 Black & Red ball fell on Lauren’s birthday and she would have been 18.  The 2013 Black & Red ball was not only an important fundraising and awareness event for Vasculitis but is a celebration of Lauren’s life.  Grant made an emotional tribute to Lauren as “a beautiful, amazing and Inspirational girl.”
