GP Vasculitis E-Learning

The Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation, leading support charity for vasculitis, in partnership with the Royal College of General Practitioners, has funded a brand-new resource designed to assist GPs diagnose the potentially fatal condition, Vasculitis.

Available to all UK registered GPs through the Royal College of General Practitioners e-learning resource http://elearning.rcgp.org.uk/course/info.php?id=301, the new courses offer up to date information and guidance on the condition, as well as precise details on how it can present in a bid to aid GPs in recognising the potentially fatal symptoms.

Grant Currie co-founder of the Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation added “Vasculitis claimed the life of our only child Lauren in 2010, and since then, my wife Adrienne and I have dedicated ourselves to raising awareness of this life-threatening condition. There are many difficulties associated with Vasculitis – it is an uncommon disease, the trigger remains unknown, it remains incurable and can be fatal or result in acute organ damage if not diagnosed and treated early. All of this combines to make it particularly difficult for GPs to immediately recognise. It is imperative that GPs are aware and up to date on the handling this disease as they are first stage to obtaining a diagnosis. Now, through the new courses which the LCTF has funded to make GP professional development tools available through the RCGP’s fantastic e-learning resource, we hope to have patients diagnosed and treated earlier and avoid another family suffering as we did with this disease.”

Dr Hilary, ITV Good  Morning Britain Health Editor, is a patron of Lauren’s Foundation and has been pivotal in heading up the campaign with the charity. Dr Hilary produced a video message for the charity website explaining the importance of early diagnosis and how this great initiative directed at GP education and awareness will assist greatly in saving lives.

This is the first awareness of its kind for vasculitis directed at GPs and once again we are delighted that LCTF’s innovative approach to educating and raising awareness of vasculitis has been pivotal in the funding and production of this very first GP series of E-learning modules.
